“Mokum” is a yiddish word that means “place” or “safe haven”. The rhythmic geometric motifs are pulled from patterns found around the city of Amsterdam, from the canals to the lively walls of Amsterdam Centraal (train station).
Mokum is knit in the round from the bottom up, beginning with a crochet provisional cast-on. A folded hem is created with the cast on stitches, then the cowl continues in charted colorwork. For a top edge that mirrors the folded hem, stitches are picked up on the wrong side of the work and kitchener stitch is used to graft the two rows together, binding off all stitches.
This cowl is knit in Urth Yarn's Harvest Worsted, a delightful yarn dyed using natural ingredients, including roots, fruits, and nuts on a base of wonderfully squishy, 100% extrafine, superwash merino wool base.
